As AI chatbots become increasingly prevalent in our lives, more and more people are beginning to compare the various features of different models. Two of the most popular generative AI chatbots that have been compared are ChatGPT and Jasper Chat.
While both have their pros and cons, there are some key differences between the two that can help you decide which one is right for you.
One example of where Jasper’s AI chatbot provides a much more valuable response than ChatGPT is when integrating Google search data (in addition to its underlying GPT 3.5 dataset). By using this feature, Jasper Chat can provide much more helpful results when users ask for information on any given topic or query. This is especially useful for people who need reliable sources quickly, as Jasper Chat will cite source webpages it has consulted. This allows a user to get the most up-to-date and comprehensive information available on a particular topic. On the other hand, ChatGPT does not integrate Google search data into its responses and as of this writing, is limited to data up to sometime in 2021.
ChatGPT vs Jasper Chat Real-Life Side-by-Side Test
Here is the actual prompt I put into both in a side-by-side comparison test:
Can you tell me where the cheapest place to park in Philadelphia would be? I’m staying at the Residence Inn Philadelphia City Center at One E Penn Square, Philadelphia, PA 19107. I want to find a parking garage within 4 blocks that has a daily rate of $30 or less.
The AI prompt given to ChatGPT in this test
First, notice how in the second screenshot, you see that Jasper chat has the ability to toggle on and off a feature to “include Google search data” before you submit the prompt.
Now let’s see the outputs received from ChatGPT and Jasper Chat:
As you can see, because ChatGPT doesn’t have access to live data, it defaults to generic advise in this chatbot output. They are definitely great tips for approaching the problem I posed in the original prompt. But lacks concrete value that I can take and run with at this point.
Now, let’s look at Jasper Chat’s response:
WOW — what a difference in results, right?
Jasper Chat is giving me specific responses. It gave me specific locations. It gave me walking distances from my hotel. It gave me pricing. Now, I also have the ability to continue and ask it modifying queries to follow this up of course. I could ask for more results to be added to the list, I can ask it to resort the answers by price, or by walking distance, etc.
Just a caveat regarding all results that you get from any generative AI chatbot. None of them claim to be factually correct in all responses. Because of the way the technology constructs the national lanuage reponses — word-by-word instead of creating “thoughts” and then putting words to them, when it pulls any facts, numbers, quotes, it may not be accurate, so as a best practice you need to keep a human in the loop for fact checking, etc.
There’s other use cases where ChatGPT has better outputs. Of course it really depends on how you construct your prompts. On the other hand, Jasper AI has 50+ different templates that basically take care of the AI prompting for you.
BTW, Microsoft is releasing an update to their search engine, Bing.com which will integrate ChatGPT’s underlying chatbot technology. This is the kind of added sophistication of responses that they hope will leapfrog what you get from a regular search engine query. Google is obviously racing to catch-up in the AI Chatbot Wars.
At the end of the day, both AI chatbots have pros and cons depending on your needs and preferences and it’s important to do your research and try them out before deciding which one is right for you. However, when comparing the use cases like this of both models makes it easy to see why many people choose Jacper Chat over ChatGPT due to its integration of Google search data and faster response times.
